gul-e-nak.hat jahaaN gulaab rahaa
gesuuoN meN vo hii savaab rahaa

un kaa chehraa rahaa koii jaise
aks-dar-aks waa.n shabaab rahaa

chhuu gayii zulf aa.nkh ko kau.nde
saayaa jaise meraa hijaab rahaa

shab-e-hasrat* visaal-e-yaar kii thii
wo na aayii ki aaftaab rahaa
(*night of desire)

jo muhabbat nahiN rahii un ko
kya buraa hai agar azaab rahaa

hai KHalaa bhii nadiim-e-yak-do-jaam*
gar sharaabii binaa sharaab rahaa
(*companion of one or two pegs)

chashm-e-saaqii safiir kya piinaa
un ke chehre pe gar naqaab rahaa

गुल-ए-नक्हत जहां गुलाब रहा
गेसुओं में वो ही सवाब रहा

उन का चेहरा रहा कोई जैसे
अक्स-दर-अक्स वां शबाब रहा

छू गई ज़ुल्फ़ आँख को कौंदे
साया जैसे मेरा हिजाब रहा

शब-ए-हसरत विसाल-ए-यार की थी
वो न आयी की आफ़ताब रहा

जो मुहब्बत नहीं रही उन को
क्या बुरा है अगर अज़ाब रहा

है ख़ला भी नदीम-ए-यक-दो-जाम
गर शराबी बिना शराब रहा

चश्म-ए-साक़ी सफ़ीर क्या पीना
उन के चेहरे पे गर नक़ाब रहा


ख़ुदा परेशां तेरी बला से तेरे सितम से तेरे अधम से
अगर हसीँ होते ज़ुल्म तेरे तू भी तो कुछ शर्मसार होता
