Raat kirnoN ke jhund ne mujhe jagaaya thaa,
theek usii waqt tiraa bhii khayaal aayaa thaa.

main sahem kar uthaa aur uth ke baith gayaa,
yoon lagaa tuune badee door se bulaayaa thaa.

Dushmanon se gilaa bhi kyaa karte,
shaher ke har habeeb ne mujhe sataaya thaa.

Chaand jis tarhaa sitaaroN me doob jaata hai,
jism meraa bhi yuNhii khoon me nahaaya thaa.

maine kab hum-safar kahaa hai tumhe,
meraa ham-dam mera dilbar miraa hi saayaa thaa.

Kaam aaya hai teraa dil se khelnaa aye dost,
Tumhii ne rasm-e-zamaanaa mujhe sikhaaya thaa.

Use na yaad karooN ab to jaan jaatii hai,
muddatoN baad jise hamne hi bhulaaya thaa.

zamaane bhar ke tufaano se laD gaya thaa magar,
tujhe to "Shaad" tere ishq ne haraaya thaa.
